The Ice Project
The Ice Project is an initiative to get people outdoors and active during the winter. It is a series of fun stations located around Dows Lake in Ottawa to help beginner skaters improve their confidence and skills.
Stations
Signs and Seating
These illuminated signs will attract skaters to each learning station while providing station instructions.
Each station has modular seating with incorporated boot storage.
Carousel
Carousel is the first station. Its purpose is to help new skaters get accustomed to the feel of the ice while having constant support.
Skate Rails
New skaters will be able to skate between the rails with a few feet in between each set. This gives beginners an opportunity to skate on open ice without being far from a support. The goal is for the skater to pass through each set of rails practicing stopping on the ice without support.
Turn Buds
Turn Buds, the third station, gives skaters the opportunity to learn to avoid obstacles on the ice. Turn Buds have handles in case skaters need some support.
*All of these stations are sized for both adults as well as children
